MESSAGES/TRIBUTES

Raquel (Daughter)

"She's standing in the hall of faith, Pointed the way to Life When we faced the maze. So we're thanking You God, For the blessing of our Mother, Thank You that she taught us... Taught us how to pray!"

Camille (Daughter)

"Mumsy I will always love you.."

Camille Gaskins (Daughter)

"Mumsy…words cannot fully express how much I love you. You taught me so much and I will be eternally grateful. We left Jamaica together and journeyed for over 20 years in a strange land. Oh the memories I will cherish for a lifetime.. I thank God for the exemplary life you lived. Mums, you helped to shape so many lives and you have now earned your wings, taken your flight and resting in the arms of your Savior Jesus The Christ. Continue to rest in sweet peace until we meet again Mums. I will always love you…."

Nicqi (Daughter)

" Mummy You warned us, gave several hints, and yet we were not prepared. Missing you so much, while knowing that you are at peace with your God. Thanking God for the extra 12 years we were blessed with, and for all the memories of then. Thanks for mothering as you knew best, for the sacrifices, the fun, the lessons, the laughter, and your love for each of us. I celebrate your outlandish generosity that welcomed strangers and fed the hungry. Thanks for passing that on your girls. Lord, strengthen us for this journey we pray amen."

Michelle Ashwood-Stewart (Daugher)

"Mummy, we all knew this day would come, and I have every assurance that you are in the loving arms of your Lord and Savior - free from pain, aches, and illness - but I miss you already! And I can't use Google to find you... Love you forever ... until we meet again."

Jereen (Sesmie) (Niece)

"A limb has fallen from our family tree. I cannot say and I will not say that she is dead but she's sleeping in the Mater's hand. With a cheery smile and a wave of hand. Keep resting aunt Myrtle until we see each other again and I hope you're singing in the Angel's choir with that melodious voice. This is not goodbye, this is until then🕊🕊🕊"

De'Jaughn Padonu (Grandson)

"I'm reminded of her every time I look at my hands. Although she is no longer close to me physically, she remains in my heart and motivates me every step of the way. Her words, "Only your best is good enough," will always ring in my spirit."

Raquel (Daughter)

"My mom loved me, believed in me, encouraged me, cared for me, advised me, laughed with me, was there for me. My life has been truly enriched by her love. I will treasure that forever. No one can take her place. I am grateful for the many precious times we had, especially last Summer spent together making lasting memories. I can't believe this is real, but I am so glad, that pain and suffering is a thing of the past. 'Cos "she's standing in the Hall of Faith"

Yolande (Friend)

"mommy' became known to many people through the love and kindness of her daughters who reflected not least their own, but also the love and kindness they had learnt from their mother. This was evident when I met mommy when she visited the UK- a woman of poise but yet grace. I loved what she exuded and the kind of mother she represented- a mother that most of us long to have / have had in our lives. May her soul rest in peace and May her daughters find comfort in knowing they had a mother who honoured the Lord. Love, Yolande"

The McKees, Antrim (Family)

"What a privilege to know such a wonderful and godly woman. Getting to know Myrtle over the years as she visited Robert and Raqs enabled us to appreciate her wisdom, insight and kindness. Not to mention her fabulous sense of humour. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the family. Much love, Joan, Cate and Ali."

Denise Armstrong (Friend)

"I never met Ms. Myrtle personally, yet judging by her offspring— especially my dear friend, Raquel, my sister in Christ from college days—she was one Jamaica’s treasured maternal figures whose influence & service is no doubt noted in heaven if not on earth, and will be rewarded there! Rest well, Ms. Myrtle, till we meet before His Throne. Denise (with husband, Claude) Armstrong"

Livingstone (Friend)

"We admire Myrtle's confidence in her lineage, her passion about her country, as well as her love and commitment to her family. She's indeed blessed!"

Janette Fuller (Friend)

"I met 'Raquel's mom' in 1988 after our graduation service at Shortwood Teachers' college. She immediately made an impact. Her personality was large and encompassed all of us around her. She was eager to meet us and took the opportunity to shake our hands. When it was my turn, she exclaimed, "Your hand is so cold," and tried to massage some warmth into it. That didn't work. She left me with these words, "They say 'cold hands mean warm heart'". She seemed to be trying to figure out if my heart was warm. At that time, I was not that self-aware, so I'd not thought much about my personality. Her words caused me to engage in some self-analysis which left me with some interesting "truths" about myself. One of these "truths" is that my hands take on the temperature of my environment, figuratively and literally."

Janette Fuller (Friend)

"The second time I met Mrs Ashwood- Johnson was at Nyles' funeral. She hadn't lost any of her youthful vigour, and her joy and strength shone brightly through. She will live on through the lives of her daughters who share many of her personality traits - her large buoyant presence that embraced everyone. May she rest in peace, and may her family rest in the comfort of the rich legacy of her personality and the life of service that she lived and bequeathed to them."

JeanMarie Thompson (Friend)

"I’m so thankful to have met and spent time over the years with Myrtle. We met up when Myrtle visited with Raquel and her family in Northern Ireland. She easily got to know all of her grandchildren’s school friends and their families. My memories are walks at the Lough shore in Antrim, visits to Raquel’s home and spending a lovely evening in her 80th year in her company along with Rio. She was ‘easy company’… comfortable to chat with and interested in everyone around her. I want to pass on both my own and my family’s sympathy to all of Myrtle’s family and many friends. She was much loved in life and will be greatly missed….."

Talecia Porter (Honorary Daughter)

May her soul rest in the loving arms of her Father. Love you Mrs. Johnson"

"We became part of this family through Raquel from 1985 and the bond is still as close as ever. Ms Myrtle was always so welcoming and kind. She always had a word of encouragement and it was easy to feel comfortable in her presence. I am so happy I had the privilege of spending time with her last summer. My family has been so blessed through our friendship with Raquel, Michelle, Nicole and the rest of the family. Mommy has truly left a legacy of love. We look forward to the first resurrection."

Ann-Marie Peynado (Friend)

"As a friend of the family, going to St JAGO with her daughter Nicki, I met Mrs Johnson quite a few times and was always impressed by her strength of character, her kindness and generosity. She made a huge impression on me as she raised her girls as a single Mom to be as strong, determined, spiritual and loving as she was. Later our paths crossed again when she visited the UK to see her daughter Racquel. My husband truly warmed to her and said she was one of the nicest people he ever met. I will remember her as warm, witty, spiritual, down to earth. A woman who loved her country and served it well as a fine educator. She will be truly missed."

MAY YOUR SOUL REST IN PEACE 🙏🏽"

"I thank God for knowing you, Aunt Myrtle. In the few years I knew Aunt Myrtle it was like knowing who Jesus is. She was Christ-like indeed. She was gentle, loving, kind and had a sweet precious spirit. Her entire demeanour reflected the peace of God. You could see that she had a heart full of kindness towards people. We thank God for your life here on earth. Now our sweet Saviour Jesus has called you home. Rest well and enjoy your mansions in Heaven. May many come to know Jesus Christ through your life lived. You are forever loved and will be remembered. May the Holy Spirit, the comforter and the peace of God be with the family and friends of Aunt Myrtle in Jesus Name. I remember when my father was in the hospital in his last days and she came a prayed over him. It was one of his most beautiful last moments and brought so much peace to our family. I pray her family may now receive that comfort and peace."

"I last saw Aunt Myrtle when she visited our home in England. It was a welcome surprise. She had such gentle dignity and poise. I thought then it would be such a blessing to age with grace like her. I look forward to seeing her again in the presence of Father. "Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the LORD she shall be praised." Proverbs 31:30"

"Gerry and I had the enormous privilege of getting to know Myrtle through Raquel, Robert and the family. Sharing meals and family celebrations together, we enjoyed Myrtle’s company each time she visited NI. Also, our home group who were the recipients of much her good humour, prayers, praise as well as her wisdom. Whether a celebratory time with lots of smiles, or the painful grief that came from the loss of her grandson Nyle, Myrtle was steadfast in her love for God and his word. She will be sorely missed."

Ivel (Cousin)

"M=marvelous Y=youthfulness R=respectful T=tender, trusted, L= legendary E=exceptional To my cousins, my heartfelt condolences 🙏 as we grieve and celebrate aunt Myrtle's life, we are grieving because we won't be able to physically touch her for now, she won't respond to us anymore, and so the void is real. But let us celebrate her legacy, and constantly be reminded of the precious soul she was. I will miss her calm demeanor, her humble attitude and her advice to always strive for the best in life."

Cynthia White (Friend)

"Myrtle and I met in Nightingale Grove in the 1970's when we became friends and bonded as sisters. We lost contact for many, many years and reconnected only in February last year, after herself and daughters made a relentless search to track me down..In a mysterious and convoluted way the such ended with Michelle on the other end of the line..and oh my goodness, that was a pleasant surprise. So we had a lot of catching up, filling the gap of those lost years and reminiscing the good old days of Nightingale Grove."pt.1

Cynthia White (Friend)

"It I have known Myrtle to be a nurturing mother, also acting the role of father...An educator, who at the same time was always advancing her own education...An entrepreneur... And I am sure, a doting grandmother... A great friend to so many people....Myrtle was, indeed a role model. If her life story could be told in full, I am sure it would be impressive, as will be evidenced by bits and pieces of her story that others will touch on today. But if Myrtle could have a say today, I think it would be..."pt.2

Cynthia White (Friend)

"Thank GOD for JESUS, I have enjoyed my life with Him in the shadows, but now I see Him face to face. We all have to remember that as life's journey comes to a halt, only the essence of our lives remains...that should be the fragrance of our relationship with our Creator...So as we all travel along life's journey, Always, never forget, that one day it will be your story told...So let us make sure that Jesus Christ is the Main Character in our life story today."pt.3

Winelle, Mikie and Tsalom (Friend)

"13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters,[a] about those who have died,[b] so that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have died. I Thessalonians 4:13,14"

Winelle, Mikie and Tsalom (Friend)

"The Geneva Moravian Fellowship extends to our beloved sister Rev Nicqi Ashwood our deepest condolences. Nicqi is a foundational member of the fellowship and as such her mummy Myrtle became our mummy. We were therefore deeply saddened by the loss and we deeply felt Nicqi’s pain.
Nicqi, we assure you of our continued prayers and support during this difficult season. We pray for all your siblings and all the members of your close-knit family, loved ones and friends.
